It's sometimes said that "some histories are better left untold." We're proud to announce, however, that ours can't afford not to be told, as its inspiration-potential is far too valuable to go unshared.
Amidst the frigid temperatures of the 9th of Janauary, 2005, approximately one-hundred-fifty people unceremoniously assembled in the conference hall of the Chesapeake Holiday Inn for an impromptu meeting and worship service. Although uncertainty with regard to our future destination loomed, an unbridled sense of joy and euphoria flooded the room, as people worshipped with a new sense of freedom and anticipation.
After two weeks of Sunday meetings and make-shift services, the Lord's will, with regard to the direction of His people, was made clear to Rev. Mark S. Churn. This came in the form of the directive to launch a new, non-denominational church that would be contemporary in nature, progressive in form, and cutting-edge in worship; as such, Total Life Christian Center (now Total Life Church) was born. From that point on, those who prayerfully joined this ministry commenced a journey of itinerant worship throughout the hotels of the Hampton Roads, Virginia area.
Moreover, serving as a boost of inspiration to this newly assembled group of believers, was the news of its official incorporation as a non-profit religious corporation, via the Virginia State Incorporation Commission, in April of 2005.
With its official status having then been established, church leaders began searching for a temporary home among the public school buildings in the Virginia Beach/Cheseapeake area. After months of searching, Crestwood Middle School, in Chesapeake, Virginia became its first temporary home, followed by Oscar Smith High School, which became its longstanding tabernacle for roughly nine years.
Armed with a culture-friendly vision of being a church which "empowers people to live life totally," the newly re-named Total Life Church exists for the purpose of empowering people to live life totally, or put differently, to live an abundant life.
Blessed with an anointed, top-notch praise team, the delivery of practical, life-relevant messages, an engaging cadre of poised praise dancers, and a high octane, spiritully charged worship atmosphere, its techno-driven services are a fresh reflection of 21st century worship.
The apex of our storied journey came with the purchase of a 25,000 square foot building in Chesapeake, Virginia in December of 2014, where, after a year of renovations, the congregation held its first worship service on December 20, 2015.
Now the home of a few hundred worshipppers, Total Life Church continues to be a beacon of light in its new community and looks forward to the achievement of its biblical mandate of outreach, evangelism and the transformation of countless lives. To God be the glory for the great work He has done!
